Teun Zwets for HKLIVING: tray, moss

At first glance, this is a serving tray — but function is only where the story begins. Familiar in purpose, yet transformed through Teun Zwets’ unmistakable material choices and finish, it shifts toward something more expressive. The result is an object that sits somewhere between utility and decoration: capable of serving, but just as compelling when left in place as a visual statement. A tray that questions its own role, and in doing so becomes far more interesting.

Teun Zwets doesn’t design politely — and that’s exactly why we wanted to work with him. His approach is unfiltered: loud colours, unapologetic gloss, rough materials that look like they’ve been dragged straight out of the workshop. There’s no ego in the work, but there is attitude. Together we pushed furniture into a new territory, one where a chair or accessory doesn’t just blend in — it leads. These pieces behave more like characters than static objects.
